Fragrance and regulation in Switzerland

Switzerland is one of the global centres of the flavour and fragrance industry, home to some of the world’s leading companies in the field. Swiss expertise unites art and science: the creation of new fragrances and flavours, the careful sourcing of thousands of raw materials, and a rigorous commitment to safety, quality and regulatory compliance. The industry places strong emphasis on responsible and sustainable practices, ensuring that the products enjoyed by consumers in Switzerland, Europe and worldwide are made the right way.

SFFIA – Swiss Flavour and Fragrance Industry Association

The Swiss Flavour and Fragrance Industry Association (SFFIA) is the representative organisation of the Swiss flavour and fragrance industry. Founded in Geneva in December 1999 with ten member companies, it brings together the main players of the industry in Switzerland and represents them before Swiss authorities and economic bodies, as well as within international organisations including EFFA, IFRA and IOFI.

Objective and aim

The association’s primary objective is to contribute to the development of the Swiss flavour and fragrance industry and to defend the common interests of its members. It ensures that usage standards for fragrance materials are applied in line with IFRA and IOFI recommendations, based on the latest scientific research, and keeps its members informed of the main regulatory changes affecting the industry and its clients.
