A day of global collaboration on fragrance safety in Seoul

A full-day workshop on fra­gran­ce safety and risk assess­ment took pla­ce on 10 July in Seoul , co-hos­ted by the Euro­pean Cham­ber of Com­mer­ce in Korea (ECCK), KOTRA, the Research Ins­ti­tu­te for Fra­gran­ce Mate­rials (RIFM), and IFRA.

The event opened with welcoming remarks from Mr SangHee Park, director of the Foreign Investment Policy Division at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. Representing IFRA, I had the opportunity to share our vision for safe, sustainable fragrance innovation.

Dr Matthias Vey presented on IFRA Standards and skin sensitization assessment, while Dr Anne Marie Api discussed broader risk assessment frameworks. Professor Myungsil Hwang contributed valuable insights from a Korean academic perspective.

The day concluded with a lively expert panel discussion featuring voices from the Ministry of Environment and academia, fostering meaningful cross-sector dialogue and collaboration.

Par­ti­cu­lar atten­tion was given to the imple­men­ta­tion of new che­mi­cal regu­la­tions in Asia Paci­fic coun­tries inclu­ding Viet­nam, which industry are acti­vely wor­king with local sta­ke hol­ders regar­ding cla­rity, prac­ti­ca­lity, and imple­men­ta­tion details.
