The Inter­na­tio­nal Fra­gran­ce Asso­cia­tion (IFRA) wel­co­mes the road­map pre­sen­ted today by the Euro­pean Com­mis­sion to pha­se out ani­mal tes­ting for che­mi­cal safety assess­ments – a miles­to­ne for inno­va­tion, ani­mal wel­fa­re, and modern, human-rele­vant safety science.

Caro­li­ne Li, Direc­tor of the APAC Region at IFRA, recently met with Ms Yan Jiang-Ying, Chair­man of the Chi­na Asso­cia­tion of Fra­gran­ce, Fla­vour and Cos­me­tic Indus­tries (CAFF­CI), in Bei­jing, Chi­na. The mee­ting pro­vi­ded an oppor­tu­nity to build on the two orga­ni­za­tions’ long-stan­ding part­nership and to map out futu­re joint initiatives.Discussions cen­tred on three key areas: upco­ming colla­bo­ra­ti­ve pro­jects and workshop topics; regu­la­tory deve­lop­ments and how both asso­cia­tions can sup­port their mem­bers in navi­ga­ting evol­ving lands­ca­pes; and mutual know­led­ge exchan­ge bet­ween inter­na­tio­nal and domes­tic industry sta​kehol​ders​.As a con­cre­te out­co­me, IFRA and CAFF­CI offi­cially agreed to esta­blish a regu­lar dia­lo­gue bet­ween the two asso­cia­tions — for­ma­li­zing a com­mit­ment to sus­tai­ned, struc­tu­red collaboration.

The recent incor­po­ra­tion of maxi­mum accep­ta­ble con­cen­tra­tions (MAC) for AVO (Acetyly­ted veti­ver Oil) and Citral in the Annex III of the EU Cos­me­tic Regu­la­tion repre­sent impor­tant achie­ve­ments in IFRAs ongoing enga­ge­ment in ingre­dient defense.

The report from the 2024 Euro­pean Part­nership for Alter­na­ti­ve Approa­ches (EPAA) Part­ners’ Forum on endo­cri­ne dis­rup­tion within Euro­pean Union regu­la­tory fra­me­works has been accep­ted for publi­ca­tion in NAM Journal.

Repre­sen­ting IFRA, Dr. Caro­li­ne Li par­ti­ci­pa­ted in a recent mee­ting of the RAIN Asia Wor­king Group, a plat­form brin­ging together lea­ding inter­na­tio­nal che­mi­cal industry asso­cia­tions, inclu­ding the Ame­ri­can che­mistry Coun­cil (ACC), che­mi­cal industry asso­cia­tion of Cana­da, CEFIC, SCIC ( Sin­ga­po­re che­mi­cal industry Coun­cil), among others, to dis­cuss regu­la­tory deve­lop­ments across Asia.The mee­ting focu­sed on recent deve­lop­ments in che­mi­cal regu­la­tions and the asso­cia­ted cha­llen­ges facing the industry and glo­bal value chains. Par­ti­cu­lar atten­tion was given to the imple­men­ta­tion of new che­mi­cal regu­la­tions in Asia Paci­fic coun­tries inclu­ding Viet­nam, which industry are acti­vely wor­king with local sta­ke hol­ders regar­ding cla­rity, prac­ti­ca­lity, and imple­men­ta­tion details.

Peru published on April 8 Supre­me Decree No. 005‑2026-MINAM, which appro­ves the Regu­la­tion of Legis­la­ti­ve Decree No. 1570, the Legis­la­ti­ve Decree that enacts the Law on the Com­prehen­si­ve Mana­ge­ment of Che­mi­cal Substances.

Brus­sels, 29 April 2026 – Cos­me­tics Euro­pe and the Inter­na­tio­nal Fra­gran­ce Asso­cia­tion wel­co­me the swift adop­tion of the Euro­pean Parliament’s report on Omni­bus VI at today’s ple­nary ses­sion in Stras­bourg. Over recent months, the Euro­pean Par­lia­ment has tho­roughly exa­mi­ned the Euro­pean Commission’s pro­po­sal to redu­ce admi­nis­tra­ti­ve bur­dens, and boost com­pe­ti­ti­ve­ness, with detai­led scru­tiny of the con­su­mer safety pro­vi­sions, which remain robust.

It is with pro­found sad­ness that IFRA announ­ces the pas­sing of Pro­fes­sor Eme­ri­tus James (Jim) Wil­fred Brid­ges, who died at home on 10 April.
