The International Fragrance Association (IFRA) has published the 2025 edition of the IFRA Transparency List, a comprehensive snapshot of 3,691 fragrance and functional ingredients currently used worldwide for the creation of fragrance mixtures. The updated list, which goes live on 9 July, is designed to enhance consumer confidence, industry accountability and safety standards globally.

The 2025 IFRA Transparency List details 3,312 fragrance ingredients, which are substances used primarily for their odor properties or to mask malodor, and 379 functional ingredients that contribute to fragrance stability and performance, such as antioxidants, preservatives and solvents. Among the total, 1,021 are Natural Complex Substances (NCSs).

Compiled approximately every four years using anonymously aggregated industry data provided by IFRA members and stakeholders through the Volume of Use Survey, the Transparency List not only promotes transparency but also supports the Safety Assessment Program of the Research Institute for Fragrance Materials (RIFM). Fragrance ingredients included in the List undergo rigorous safety assessments conducted by RIFM, which are then reviewed and validated by an independent Expert Panel for Fragrance Safety.

Launching the updated List, IFRA’s Executive Director Alexander Mohr PhD highlighted the industry’s sustained commitment to transparency and consumer safety. He noted that the publication "serves as a foundational resource that not only enhances transparency but also promotes innovation, safety and regulatory compliance across the fragrance industry worldwide."

The complete IFRA Transparency List is available to access online from 9 July at www.ifrafragrance.org/transparency-list

About the International Fragrance Association (IFRA)

The International Fragrance Association, founded in 1973, represents the interests of the fragrance industry worldwide. IFRA comprises seven multinational Regular Members, 22 national associations in 24 countries spread over four global regions representing hundreds of small and medium-sized fragrance ingredient manufacturers, as well as supporting members. Its mission is to promote the safe and sustainable use of fragrance.

Fragrances are a key platform technology used by consumer goods companies – for fine fragrances, personal care and cosmetics products, household care and more.

IFRA’s flagship safe use program, the IFRA Standards, applies safety management measures based on scientific assessment and the evaluations of an independent Expert Panel. The program is at the heart of the IFRA Code of Practice, which applies to all IFRA members globally, including members of IFRA’s national associations. The Code also requires members to abide by local, national and international regulation, and to apply good manufacturing practices.
