The IFRA-IOFI Sustainability Charter is the industry’s shared commitment to continuous improvement across five focus areas, including environmental impact, employee wellbeing, and governance. It serves as a practical guide for fragrance and flavour companies working toward common sustainability goals.

Tools for safe innovation
Sustainability is not just about ingredients — it’s also about how materials are assessed, managed and communicated. IFRA promotes the use of tools like Safe & Sustainable by Design, New Alternative Methodologies, and the Green Chemistry Compass to support responsible product development and avoid regrettable substitution.

Collaboration and transparency
Progress depends on shared responsibility. IFRA works with member companies, regulators, scientists and other stakeholders to strengthen industry standards, encourage data sharing and support greater transparency. These efforts help align innovation with long-term sustainability goals.
