IFRA supports European Parliament Breakfast Debate

On 3 February, participants of a Breakfast Event at the European Parliament in Brussels discussed the future of the EU cosmetics and fragrance sectors in the context of the Omnibus VI package on chemicals.

Hosted by MEP Dimitrios Tsiodras, ENVI Rapporteur, and MEP Kristian Vigenin, ENVI Shadow Rapporteur, the event brought together a broad range of stakeholders, including representatives from the European Commission, Member States, NGOs and industry. The discussion focused in particular on the European Commission’s proposal to simplify the Cosmetic Products Regulation (CPR).

The proposed simplification marks an important step for the sector. Participants stressed the need to maintain Europe’s high level of consumer protection while ensuring a fit-for-purpose regulatory framework that supports innovation.

Hans Ingels (DG GROW) and Michalis Nicolaides (Cypriot Council Presidency) outlined the context and objectives of the Omnibus VI proposal, followed by a roundtable with representatives from NGOs, the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS), and industry. Discussions underscored a shared commitment to strong safety standards and workable legislation that reduces administrative burden and supports competitiveness.

The event highlighted the value of open dialogue at a key stage in the legislative process. IFRA looks forward to continued engagement with EU partners to support a safe and competitive future for the sector.
