Brussels, 29 April 2026 – Cosmetics Europe and the International Fragrance Association welcome the swift adoption of the European Parliament’s report on Omnibus VI at today’s plenary session in Strasbourg. Over recent months, the European Parliament has thoroughly examined the European Commission’s proposal to reduce administrative burdens, and boost competitiveness, with detailed scrutiny of the consumer safety provisions, which remain robust.

In early April, IFRA met with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) to review one of its long-term sustainability projects, centred on Buchu.

Brussels, 15 April 2026 – The Omnibus VI proposal updating the rules for cosmetic products has taken a key step, with Members of the European Parliament agreeing today on a way forward. The changes voted on by the European Parliament’s committees uphold the highest safety standards for consumer cosmetic products whilst aiming to reduce administrative burdens and boost competitiveness.

The International Fragrance Association (IFRA) was pleased to participate in Paris Perfume Week, organised by Nez, le mouvement culturel olfactif, joining a panel discussion dedicated to the key regulatory challenges shaping the fragrance sector in Europe.

In March, IFRA’s Vice-President also joined SAAFFI’s Annual Seminar.

Access and Benefit Sharing under the Nagoya Protocol remains a key priority for IFRA. This work is supported through a dedicated joint Task Force with IOFI, focused on practical implementation and sector-wide approaches.

Belgium has added terpinyl acetate multi to the EU Registry of Intentions, signalling plans to submit a harmonised classification and labelling (CLH) dossier for the substance by 31 December 2027.

Brussels, 24 March 2026 – In recent months, European consumers and policymakers have been increasingly exposed to misleading and inaccurate claims regarding the safety of cosmetic and fragrance products and their future regulation. These include assertions that the Omnibus VI revision would relax safety rules for carcinogenic substances, lower safety standards through regulatory simplification, or that cosmetic products pose significant health risks. Such claims are unfounded. Their growing volume risks undermining informed policymaking and public trust.

France has announced on the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) Registry of Intentions its plan to submit a CLH dossier for terpineol (EC/​List No. 701−188−3; no CAS number provided) by 31 December 2026:

The EU ​“One Substance One Assessment” (OSOA) package was published in the Official Journal on 12 December 2025 and entered into force on 1 January 2026.

A visit to IFRA member company IFF’s Tilburg site highlighted how innovation, sustainability, and EU chemicals policy connect on the factory floor. The discussions focused on the practical impact of Omnibus VI on Europe’s fragrance industry and competitiveness.
