Jean-Pierre Houri served as President of the International Fragrance Association from 2006 until the end of 2010, a period of important organizational change and strategic development for IFRA.

“Jean-Pierre Houri played a defining role in strengthening IFRA’s foundations and preparing the association for a more global and complex operating environment”, said Alexander Mohr, President of IFRA. “His leadership helped position IFRA to engage more effectively with regulators, stakeholders and members worldwide”.

During his presidency, Mr Houri championed IFRA’s global restructuring, establishing regional committees and a more streamlined governance model. He strongly advocated for a unified global brand and faster decision-making processes to better respond to regulatory and market challenges.

“I had the privilege of working closely with Jean-Pierre during his presidency,” said Matthias Vey, IFRA’s long-standing Vice President of Scientific Affairs. “Jean-Pierre was a wonderful person and a great leader, full of vision and the determination to turn ideas into reality. His openness, strategic thinking and trust in people left a lasting impression on all of us who worked alongside him”.

Mr Houri also initiated plans for regional advocacy and intelligence networks, laying the foundations for IFRA’s later geographic expansion. He actively promoted dialogue with regulators and the media, helping to strengthen understanding of, and trust in, the fragrance industry’s voluntary initiatives to ensure the safe use of fragranced products.

“The thoughts of the entire IFRA community are with Jean-Pierre's family and loved ones,” said Paul Andersson, Chairman of IFRA. “The association and its members remain grateful for his contribution to the fragrance sector”.

About the International Fragrance Association (IFRA)

The International Fragrance Association, founded in 1973, represents the interests of the fragrance industry worldwide. IFRA comprises seven multinational Regular Members, 22 national associations in 24 countries spread over four global regions representing hundreds of small and medium-sized fragrance ingredient manufacturers, as well as supporting members. Its mission is to promote the safe and sustainable use of fragrance.

Fragrances are a key platform technology used by consumer goods companies – for fine fragrances, personal care and cosmetics products, household care and more.

IFRA’s flagship safe use program, the IFRA Standards, applies safety management measures based on scientific assessment and the evaluations of an independent Expert Panel. The program is at the heart of the IFRA Code of Practice, which applies to all IFRA members globally, including members of IFRA’s national associations. The Code also requires members to abide by local, national and international regulation, and to apply good manufacturing practices.
